Hello and welcome to ThreeChannels.

Slushed In

slush

Last night as we left OT, Edward’s eyes lit up as the snowflakes fell, ponderous and thick, drifting on the van and rendering it somewhat civilized.  By the time we got home, our deck and yard were covered in an inch, and by bedtime, three glorious inches transformed our yard into a veritable wonderland.

We even made a small snowman (complete with chocolate goldfish eyes and an organic carrot nose) in anticipation of the morning to come.

I was awakened this morning, however, by a blood-curdling scream.

“NOOOOOOOO!  Where is the SNOW????  Agghhhh!  I cannot take it people!”

nosnow

In the cruelest weather trick, a cold rain reduced this glorious bounty to an alluvial slush-fan.

“We can’t even make Gatorade ‘icees’ out of it!”

(Or even hope to sled.)

deadsled

(That sled cost me $20.00, I kid you not!  Snow-hope price gouging at its best!  Trouble is, I bought three of them!)

So now I am sitting here just listening to my three and their eight-year-old cousin…listening and typing verbatim:

“Edward, your head is BLOCKING!”

“I am the king and you two are my henchmen!”

snowdaycrazy

“Stop it!  You’re being a Jack-Math!”    (Do you get this?  Is it a way to avoid saying Jack-A$$? Should I be worried?)

“What??? That is so cheap!”

sodelicious

“You know Mario and Luigi are brothers.”

“I don’t care if they are Siamese Twins.  I don’t care if they are Japanese Warriors.”

slushedin

“No human shields, OK? No human shields allowed!”

“Edward, I mean seriously man….you ran ahead!”

“We’re in this together–we’re tryin’ to WIN!”

Always about the winning, isn’t it?

We have enough snow for a total sledding race!

that rain was just cruel – I mean the TEASE of getting to sled in the snow is just AWFUL!
And I bet you had school closings which meant you had to stay inside and stare at the sludge all day – awful I tell you just awful!!!

Sorry your snow melted! I was going to buy my kids new fancy sleds this winter, but I nearly fainted at a $60 price tag. They weren’t THAT fancy. $60 per kid is just too much fun. They are using their old saucers. Again.

It is all about winning!

I never thought I’d say this during THIS year, of all years, but I’m sorry you didn’t get snow. We can give you some of ours. I promise we have enough.

What is it with the cruel weather tricks these day?

Sorry the snow didn’t live up to its fun potential. Although the home bound kids make for some interesting conversation. My favorite:

“I don’t care if they are Siamese Twins. I don’t care if they are Japanese Warriors.”

Jack-math was cute. My kids routinely use the substitutions but the words they’re trying to get away with are a little racier…Life in the big city?

Love the conversations you overheard. So funny!

And the weather totally stinks. We have gotten snow, then rain, then snow, then melty slushy stuff that refreezes. Actually, our weather may be similar to yours seeing as you only live a couple hours away…..I for one am looking forward to spring.

I don’t know what was intended with the jack-math comment, but I know I’ve got a son who needs to get to the table to do some…
